The U.S. Men's National Team had their backs against the wall. Down 2-1 in sets? No problem. They bounced back to edge China 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11) in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League opener at NOW Arena. This wasn't just a win; it was a statement.
EWERT LEADS THE CHARGE
Jordan Ewert was a man on a mission. 16 kills, 18 points, and a couple of blocks to top it off. He set the tone, leading with six successful receptions. "It was an important match," Ewert said. "First time playing in front of friends and family. Getting the 'W' is huge."
TEAM EFFORT
This wasn't a solo show. Kyle Ensing chipped in 12 points and Jacob Pasteur added 11 kills, while Ethan Champlin came alive in the fourth set with 10 kills. Micah Ma’a ran the offense, dropping a block and an ace.
Head coach Karch Kiraly praised the squad: "It was a 14-man effort. We found a combination that worked. Whatever we threw on the floor, they responded."
THE TURNING POINT
Trailing 21-17 in the second set, the U.S. suffered a setback when Erik Shoji left the court injured. But just like that, everything changed. The team regrouped, flipping the script in the fourth set.
LOOKING AHEAD
With this win, the U.S. moves to 3-2. Next up? North American rival Canada. With the momentum shift in their favor, expect fireworks. This team is on a mission.
Handled business, made a statement. That'll do it.
