This match? Poland showed up and showed out. Straight up dominant. The U.S. Men’s National Team, fresh off a 4-3 record, got more than they bargained for against the Polish powerhouse, losing 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) in front of a packed house at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Poland's Precision
Poland didn't just win — they imposed their will. With a slight edge in kills (40-36) and blocks (7-6), they also minimized their errors, committing nine fewer than the U.S. And just like that, they took control.
U.S. head coach Karch Kiraly didn't sugarcoat it: "We tried to make something out of nothing too much and didn’t take care of the easy plays." The American squad struggled to find their rhythm, playing catch-up against a disciplined Polish side that wasn't even at full strength.
U.S. Bright Spots
Despite the loss, there were moments of brilliance. Cooper Robinson led with nine points, including three aces that lit up the court. Middle blocker Merrick McHenry was on fire, hitting .556 with six kills and two blocks.
The team showed flashes of what they could be. Down 16-11 in the second set, a 6-1 run tied it at 17, thanks to back-to-back aces by Matthew Knigge. But Poland had an answer for everything.
The Italy Challenge
Next up? Italy. A team with a 5-2 record that promises to bring the heat. Kiraly is ready for the challenge: "They are going to challenge us. This was a really good team and it was not Poland’s best team."
The U.S. needs to clean up their game and find consistency. With Erik Shoji back on the court after an injury scare, there's hope for a turnaround. But they’ll need more than hope to handle Italy.
You could feel it coming. This is where it changed. Italy won’t make it easy. Game on.
