Penn State women's volleyball pulled off the unthinkable. Down two sets against Nebraska, they flipped the match. Reverse sweep. Straight up dominant.
Volleyball's Spark
December 19 was a night to remember. Katie Schumacher-Cawley's squad was on the brink. Nebraska was five points from ending their season. Timeout called. And just like that, the momentum shifted.
Penn State rallied to win the fourth set 28-26, after being down 22-16. The Nittany Lions then took the fifth set, sealing a spot in the NCAA finals. That set the stage.
Hockey Takes Notes
Enter Guy Gadowsky and the Penn State men's hockey team. Inspired by the volleyball team's resilience, they asked: "How did they do it?" Schumacher-Cawley had answers. Calm under pressure.
"I think we learned a really valuable lesson about just staying true to yourself and staying positive," Gadowsky said. A lesson they took to heart.
Hockey's Own Comeback
The hockey team was 0-8 in the Big Ten, on the ropes. But they took a page from the volleyball playbook. They regrouped. They recalibrated.
Fast forward to the NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament. Down twice against UConn, they rallied to a 3-2 overtime win. First Frozen Four in program history.
The Penn State Effect
From a locker room captivated by volleyball to the ice rink, Penn State's teams are proving something big. Resilience, grit, and a never-give-up attitude. Simon Mack, the senior captain, summed it up: "We put everything together."
And from there... it was over. The Penn State spirit is contagious. Who's next?
