NYU men's volleyball is back. And they're hungry.

A New Chapter

After a brutal 3-1 loss to California Lutheran University in last year’s NCAA Division III Elite Eight, the Violets are fired up. A 26-game win streak that ended too soon. But this season? They're ready to flip the script.

With 10 first-years on the roster, this isn't just a rebuilding year. It's a takeover. Bennet Tchaikovsky, the sophomore libero stepping into the spotlight, had 17 digs in a standout win against Arcadia University. That's more than double his previous best. Filling the shoes of former captain Zach Knudsen is no joke, but Tchaikovsky? He's handling business.

Young Guns Making Noise

Coach José Piña knows he's got a young squad. But these freshmen aren't here to sit on the bench. Right-side hitter BoJameson Ebeling and outside hitter Charles Clifford are already leading the charge, with 22 and 17 kills, respectively, against Arcadia. They’re not just filling spots—they're running the show.

“We’re throwing all the freshmen out there and seeing what they can do,” said junior captain Emerson Evans. And they're proving they belong.

The Stakes Are High

Sure, a 4-1 start isn’t perfect. But let's be real—it's not about perfect. It's about proving they can hang with the best. Last season, Devyn Nguyen led with 293 kills. This season, he's guiding a new generation.

Coach Piña’s aim? Top three in the conference. With opponents stacked with veterans, that’s no easy task. But this squad is different. Nguyen believes in the underdog story: “I want to prove that, once again, we can still win.”

Building a Legacy

Three United Volleyball Conference titles in the past decade, but never the national crown. The Violets are done being a one-hit wonder. “We’re building a culture that’s here to stay,” said Evans.

With their first home game against Rutgers University-Newark on Feb. 3, they’re ready to show the world what NYU volleyball is all about. This isn't just a season. It's the start of something big.

And from there… it’s game on.
