The U.S. Men's National Team wrapped up their 2025 VNL journey with a 3-0 loss to Japan in Chiba. The crowd? Electric. And just like that, Japan punched their ticket to the finals, leaving the U.S. with a 6-6 record and a ticket home.
A Tough Finish
Jordan Ewert led the U.S. with 13 kills, but it wasn't enough. Japan had a 44-28 advantage in kills and a 4-2 edge in aces. Straight up dominant. The U.S. struggled at the service line, a fact not missed by head coach Karch Kiraly.
"We learned a lot," Kiraly said. "We are excited about what we can get better at going into World Championships."
Playing the Long Game
Kiraly's strategy? Mix it up. The U.S. tested different lineups throughout VNL. "It's imperative that we mix and match," Kiraly explained. "The guys handled it really well." This was a chance to learn, and the U.S. took it.
