The U.S. Men's National Team wasn't just playing. They were making a statement. Gabi Garcia? Absolutely on fire.
Garcia's Night to Shine
Thursday night at the NOW Arena, the U.S. took down Canada in a clean sweep — 25-23, 25-22, 30-28. And right at the center? Garcia, with a stunning 19 points. He topped the charts with 15 kills and 3 aces. Talk about a breakout performance.
"I’m just trying to have fun out there," Garcia shared. Fun or not, he was a problem for Canada.
The Stats Don't Lie
Both teams recorded 41 kills, but the U.S. had the edge with 6 aces to Canada's 2. It wasn't just about the offense — the U.S. committed seven fewer errors, keeping their game cleaner and sharper.
Veteran setter Micah Ma’a led a .383 hitting percentage. That's how you run an offense. Cooper Robinson also bounced back big with 11 kills and 13 points.
Turning Points and Tough Breaks
The U.S. seemed to pull away in the third set with Garcia's back-to-back aces making it 20-15. Canada fought back to 22-all, but a block from Merrick McHenry sealed the deal.
Injuries marred the night for the U.S., though. Libero Erik Shoji is expected to return soon, but Shane Holdaway's debut was cut short. "My heart is really heavy for Shane," Coach Karch Kiraly said. A rallying point for the team, for sure.
What's Next?
The U.S. now sits in sixth place at 4-2, with a day to regroup before facing a strong Poland squad. Momentum is key, and with Garcia leading the charge, you can feel it coming.
Saturday's clash? Expect fireworks.
