Erik Shoji: The Libero Legend

Erik Shoji is no ordinary libero. This guy is a defensive mastermind on the court. Bronze medalist in Rio and Paris—he's been a rock for the U.S. national team. And just like that, he's a dual CEV Champions League winner with ZAKSA.

Born to Play

Honolulu, Hawaii was where it all started. With volleyball royalty in his veins—courtesy of dad, Dave Shoji—Erik was destined for greatness. Three state titles at Punahou School? Check. Four-time All-American at Stanford University? Done.

A Libero Like No Other

Shoji joined Team USA in 2013 and made an instant impact. His performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics was nothing short of spectacular. Fast forward to Paris 2024, and he did it again, helping the team secure another bronze. Shoji’s ability to read the game? Unmatched. His digs? 1,402 at Stanford. That’s big time.

Club Domination

From Germany to Poland, Shoji's club career has been a world tour. But since 2021, he’s been the defensive anchor at ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Two Champions League titles later, he's shown exactly why he’s one of the best. Opponents have no answer for his relentless defense.

Off the Court

Shoji's story goes beyond the volleyball court. He came out as queer in 2025, showing the same courage off the court as he does on it. His openness? Inspirational.

Let's be real: Erik Shoji is more than just a player. He's a volleyball icon. And from here, it only gets better.
