Cal Poly Ready to Shake Up the Big West
Cal Poly had their moment in 2025 snatched by Long Beach State. But this year, they’re back on home turf at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex, and they're not here to play nice. With the 2026 Big West Beach Volleyball Championship rolling into San Luis Obispo on April 23-24, Cal Poly's got more than just sand between their toes; they've got unfinished business.
Familiar Faces, New Stakes
The stakes are sky-high: an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship is up for grabs. Let's talk numbers. Cal Poly walks in as the No. 1 seed, ranked sixth nationally, and they're hosting. Long Beach State, sitting at No. 2, has been a thorn in their side, and they're not about to let that slide. Hawai’i, ranked 16th nationally, rounds out the top three.
Last season, Long Beach State took the title with a 3-1 victory over Cal Poly. The echoes of that match still linger, but this isn’t last season’s story. This is a new chapter.
Day 1: The Pools of Destiny
Pool play kicks off at 11:30 a.m. sharp with Cal Poly taking on CSUN. It’s a round-robin rumble in Pool A with UC Davis also in the mix. Meanwhile, Pool B is a battlefield with Hawai’i, Long Beach State, Cal State Bakersfield, and Sacramento State fighting for survival.
