UCLA's Resilience Shines Bright
UCLA just pulled off a volleyball masterclass that left USC scratching their heads and fans on the edge of their seats. In a showdown that felt more like a heavyweight title fight than a college beach volleyball match, the Bruins rallied to a 4-1 victory, proving once again why they are the top-ranked team in the nation.
The drama kicked off on court 4 where Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck found themselves in a hole after losing the first set 13-21. But these Bruins weren't about to roll over. They clawed their way back to win the second set 21-19 and carried that momentum into the third, sealing the deal with a 15-11 triumph over Kyra Zaengle and Calinda Kok.
Court 2 was the scene of another UCLA comeback, as Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden faced down three match points in a thriller against Ashley Pater and Sarah Wood. At 15-16 in the third set, Mathews delivered a clutch kill to tie it, followed by a block that put the Bruins ahead for good. They snatched victory with an 18-16 finish, putting UCLA up 2-0.
USC Strikes Back, Briefly
Not to be entirely outdone, USC grabbed a point on court 5 where Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow outplayed Kenzie Brower and Mallory LaBreche in straight sets, 21-18, 21-17. However, that would be the only bright spot for the Trojans as UCLA's top pairs went to work.
