The Orlando Valkyries just flipped the script.
A team that was hunting for the top spot in the Pro Volleyball Federation? Now they own it.
Brittany's On Fire
First, they took down the Omaha Supernovas, the reigning champs, with a straight-up dominant 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-18, 26-24). On enemy territory, no less. Brittany Abercrombie? An unstoppable force. She dropped 25 points with 24 kills and one block. Pornpun Guedpard, their Thai setter, was dealing out 43 assists like it was nothing.
And just like that, the Valkyries were on top.
Atlanta Couldn't Stop Them
Then, back in Orlando, the Valkyries faced off against the Atlanta Vibe. It looked shaky after a hot start, but they dug deep. A 3-2 victory (25-17, 25-18, 15-25, 19-25, 15-13) kept them at the top. Abercrombie was at it again with 26 points. Middle blocker Natalie Foster chimed in with 17 points, including 12 kills, 3 aces, and 2 blocks.
Head Coach Amy Pauly gave props to the bench: "The people that you guys aren’t seeing on the floor every night are the people that are making the team better."
Mojo's Two-Game Bounce
Meanwhile, the San Diego Mojo snapped out of their funk. They took home wins against Grand Rapids Rise and Columbus Fury. That lifted them up a notch in the standings.
Now, the Valkyries sit pretty at the top with a 10-4 record. The Supernovas are chasing them with a 9-4. But you could feel it coming.
Next week is going to be a wild ride. Who's ready?
