The U.S. national teams brought the drama, the grit, and the fire in their latest Volleyball Nations League (VNL) matches, just in time to heat up the chase for the Finals. From a jaw-dropping comeback in Belgrade to a balanced start from the men’s squad, here’s where things stand and what’s next for Team USA.
USA Women Rally Past France in Five-Set Showdown
In a make-or-break match, the U.S. Women’s National Team edged out France in a heart-stopping five-set duel: 3-2 (25-22, 26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 15-13). The win keeps their Finals hopes alive as they climb to 8th in the standings.
The French team led for much of the first two sets, only to see Team USA steal them with late-set poise. France punched back hard with dominating runs in the third and fourth sets. But with everything on the line, the Americans refused to fold.
Sarah Franklin was the closer, hammering home the final two points to break a 13-13 tie in the fifth set. She racked up 18 points, all from attack. Meanwhile, Madisen Skinner led the squad with 21 points, Logan Eggleston impressed with 17 points on 61% hitting, and Dana Rettke added 10, including three key blocks.
USA Men Off to Solid Start, Led by Long Beach Legends
The men opened their 2025 VNL campaign with a 2-2 record, claiming victories over Iran and Cuba. A major storyline? The undeniable influence of Long Beach State alumni.
Libero Mason Briggs anchored the backcourt in all four matches, while Kyle Ensing brought veteran firepower on the right side. Shane Holdaway added presence at the net, continuing a collegiate legacy that’s powering USA’s international push.
