The U.S. Women's National Team just pulled off a stunner. Five match points against Canada? No problem.
Avery Skinner Show
Avery Skinner was the star of the night, piling up a whopping 21 points with 20 kills and a block. Six of those kills came in the final set, where it mattered most. Talk about clutch.
Her sister, Madi Skinner, wasn't far behind with 16 kills. And let's not forget Logan Eggleston, chipping in with 17 kills and two blocks. These women weren't just playing; they were on a mission.
Momentum Shifts
The match was a rollercoaster. The U.S. had a 69-58 edge in kills, but Canada led 24-16 in blocks. Each team served three aces, keeping it tight. But when it came down to it, the U.S. women knew how to flip the script.
Trailing 13-9 in the first set, the U.S. let Canada slip ahead. But they clawed back, taking the set 26-24. And just like that, momentum shifted.
Coach Erik Sullivan noted, "We had moments of better volleyball tonight...I really like the way we competed in those two sets at the end."
Poulter's Precision
Jordyn Poulter was in the zone, delivering 63 assists. She ran an offense where five players recorded at least seven kills. Her precision was key, and she knew it. "We can't spread it out unless we are passing well," she said. Credit to the passers for fending off Canada’s tough serves.
What's Next?
The U.S. now sits at 7-4, holding seventh place in the VNL. They're gunning for an undefeated finish against China.
This wasn't just a win. This was a statement. Lexi Rodriguez led all players with 14 successful receptions and added nine digs. Tia Jimerson took over in the fourth set with eight kills and six blocks, while Dana Rettke chipped in 10 points.
And from there... it was over.
Prediction: The U.S. will handle business against China. Straight up dominant.
