Tennessee volleyball fans, brace yourselves. The Lady Vols are in the middle of a major roster shake-up. Seven players have hit the transfer portal following Tennessee's early exit in the NCAA first round.
Williams Waves Goodbye
Starr Williams is out. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter, who put up 3.05 kills per set and ranked second on the team, is leaving after just one season. Her announcement on Instagram made waves: "I'm thankful for the staff here and everyone who has been a part of my journey!" But let's be real, losing a player like Williams is a big hit.
Humphrey's Quiet Exit
Zoë Humphrey, the SEC All-Freshman middle blocker, is also leaving Rocky Top. With 68 blocks and a .381 hitting percentage, she was a force at the net. Yet, she didn't even make the trip to Tennessee's NCAA first-round matchup. "The beauty of life lies in embracing every part," she wrote. Well, Lady Vols fans have some embracing to do.
Mogridge Moves On
Freshman setter Izzy Mogridge is in the portal too. In 43 sets, she notched 172 assists, playing backup to All-American Caroline Kerr. Her farewell? "This team was one-of-a-kind," she shared. But with Kerr still on board, Mogridge saw the writing on the wall.
Chapman and Granberry Join the Queue
Paityn Chapman and Keondreya Granberry round out the exodus. Chapman, with her 165 kills and presence as an opposite hitter, and Granberry, a senior who battled injuries, leave big shoes to fill. Both have expressed gratitude for their time, but their departures leave Coach Eve Rackham Watt with a roster to rebuild.
And just like that… Tennessee volleyball is at a crossroads. Who steps up next? The offseason just got a whole lot more interesting.
