BIG TIME WIN
Taking down the Loyola Marymount Lions 3-2 in the 2025 NCAA Beach Volleyball Finals, TCU earned their first National Championship. It wasn't just a win—it was a statement.
This year, TCU ran the show. They won the Big 12 regular season and the Conference Tournament. Dropped only five matches all season. Entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Straight up dominant.
THE PATH TO GLORY
The Horned Frogs swept past Georgia State and Texas like it was nothing. Then came a semifinal battle, knocking out 6-seed Cal Poly 3-1. Meanwhile, the Lions, coming in as the No. 4 seed, had been on a tear of their own. They swept No. 13 Florida Atlantic, dethroned USC 3-1, and took down top-seeded UCLA 3-2.
THE MATCH
When it came down to the finals, it was a back-and-forth affair. Ana Vergara & Anhelina Khmil opened for TCU with a win on Court 4, going 21-0 this season. LMU answered back, tying up the score on Court 2. TCU pulled ahead again on Court 3, but LMU leveled it on Court 5.
THE SHOWDOWN
All eyes were on Court 1. It was Tania Moreno & Daniela Alvarez vs. Michelle Schaffer & Anna Pelloia. LMU grabbed the first set 21-18. But Alvarez & Moreno flipped the match with a 21-15 win in the second.
And then everything changed. TCU stormed through the third set. Alvarez delivered the clinching block—a fitting end for the 2025 National Player of the Year. The Horned Frogs rushed the sand. National Champions. This is where it changed.
