The San Diego Mojo are no strangers to high stakes. In their inaugural 2024 season, this team of trailblazers dove headfirst into the Major League Volleyball scene. And oh, what a ride it's been.
A Rocky Start
February 1, 2024. Remember that date. The Mojo's debut against the Atlanta Vibe turned out to be a brutal welcome to the league. Swept in three sets with scores like 17-25, 15-25, and 16-25. Ouch. But let's be real, every great story needs a comeback.
First Win Magic
Fast forward to February 23. The Grand Rapids Rise stood no chance against a Mojo squad hungry for redemption. Four sets later, the Mojo clinched their first victory: 36-34, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23. The crowd? Over 6,000 fans strong. You could feel it coming.
Setting Records
Speaking of fans, April 7 marked another milestone. Viejas Arena was electric as the Mojo took down the Columbus Fury in front of a record-setting 8,938. That's big time.
Playoff Push
Despite a shaky start, the Mojo finished with a solid 13-11 record, snagging the third seed in the PVF playoffs. Facing off against the Omaha Supernovas, they fought hard but fell in five sets: 20-25, 16-25, 25-18, 25-8, 15-11. Close, but no cigar.
Award Season
And then, the accolades rolled in. Tayyiba Haneef-Park? Coach of the Year. Nootsara Tomkom? Setter of the Year. Straight up dominant performances from both.
The Mojo's first season was a whirlwind, but mark my words—they're just getting started. That'll do it.
