Salt Lake Steals the Show in Five Sets
The LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid was a cauldron of volleyball chaos Thursday night. Salt Lake and Austin clashed like titans, with Salt Lake emerging victorious in a five-set thriller, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 27-25, 16-14. This wasn't just any match; it was the opening salvo of the League One Volleyball Championship, and boy, did it deliver.
Austin's Calculated Start
Austin opened the match like a tactical strike force, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first set. Their precision was evident, closing the set with an 8-2 run. But Salt Lake wasn't about to be another notch on Austin's belt. They responded in the second set, leveling the playing field.
Salt Lake's Relentless Counter
Salt Lake, the team nobody can figure out, showed their mettle by forcing the match to a fifth set. Alexa Gray, the Canadian sensation, was on fire, delivering 24 kills on .276 hitting. Her performance wasn't just about numbers; it was a statement that Salt Lake was here to win.
"We’re just trying to play our best volleyball when it counts," Gray said. "No one likes to play five sets in the first game, but now we have a lot of information we can use to our advantage."
