NCAA women's volleyball is getting a makeover. Keylor Chan and the rules committee just dropped a game-changing proposal: two commercial logos on the court by 2026. That's right, branding is stepping onto the court, and it could get interesting.
LOGOS AND LIVESTREAMS
The proposed changes allow two logos, maxing out at 10 feet by 10 feet, to sit between the attack line and end line. Imagine your favorite brand right there in the action. It's bold, it's new, and it's coming soon. But that's not all. The committee also wants to test live video transmissions to the bench for coaching. Talk about leveling up the strategy game.
SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS
Let's get serious. The center line rule is shifting too. It's all about safety. Keylor Chan, Samford coach and rule subcommittee chair, said, “It’s always about safety when you talk about the center line.” Now, if your foot crosses completely, it's a fault. Coaches can challenge it, and refs can check for net faults too. It's about removing subjectivity. Straightforward. No more guessing games.
BENCH CHANGES AND SUBS
Prepare for a bench shift after set two. No more constant side-switching in the fifth. This streamlines play, focusing on the game, not the logistics. Chan put it simply, “The time it takes to play a match is something that we are conscious of.”
And for Division II and III, the subs are increasing from 15 to 18 per set. Julia Rowland sees it as a chance for coaches to get creative. More subs mean more opportunities.
These changes? They’re big. They're bold. And from here… it’s a whole new ballgame.
