The U.S. Women's National Team kicked off the match like they meant business. But Poland had other plans. A 3-1 win over the U.S. (20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18) in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League left no doubt.
Eggleston's Firepower
Logan Eggleston was on fire. Racking up 24 points with 22 kills and two blocks, she was the standout on court. But even her heroics couldn't lift the U.S. over Poland's relentless attack.
Middle blocker Brionne Butler was a wall, delivering six blocks—the highest in the match—along with five kills and two aces, totaling 13 points. The U.S. wasn't lacking in defense either, thanks to libero Morgan Hentz leading with nine digs.
Serve and Pass Woes
The U.S. had a solid start, taking the first set 25-20 with plays like Eggleston's three consecutive points and Butler's aces sealing the deal. But Poland flipped the script, finding momentum with a 10-ace assault, five of those coming in the fourth set alone.
"We lost the serve and pass game," Eggleston admitted. "That's super important, so we need to get back in the gym and work on that."
Head coach Erik Sullivan echoed her sentiments, "We just need to be more consistent. We can't give up three- and four-point runs and expect to be in sets."
Poland's Comeback
Poland took control in the second set with an early 7-4 lead, and never looked back, finishing with an 8-3 run. The third set was more of the same. A brief U.S. lead at 9-8, thanks to Sarah Franklin's attack, was snuffed out by Poland's 8-2 closing run.
In the fourth, the U.S. fought for a 9-5 lead, but Poland answered with five straight points. Eggleston's 23rd point had the U.S. ahead 15-14, but a five-point swing by Poland ended any hopes.
Next up? The U.S. takes on the Netherlands. Time to regroup and handle business. The serve and pass game might just be the difference.
That'll do it.
