The volleyball scene at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga just got a lot more exciting. Laila N'diaye and Ashley Reynolds are joining the Mocs, coming straight out of Florida State's powerhouse program.
N'diaye: The Block Party Starter
Laila N'diaye isn’t just tall. At 6-foot-2, she’s a middle blocker with a mission. Though her 2024 season was cut short due to injury, she’s coming in fresh with a medical redshirt and a hunger to dominate. Remember her career-high six blocks in her first start for the Seminoles in 2023? Yeah, that’s the kind of impact Chattanooga needs.
Head coach Julie Torbett Thomas is buzzing about her new recruit: "Laila brings size, versatility, and a strong work ethic to our front row. Her presence at the net will make an immediate impact."
And let’s not forget her legacy. Coming from a family of athletes, with her dad having made it to the NBA, N'diaye is no stranger to elite competition and dedication.
Reynolds: Setter with a Championship Pedigree
Then there’s Ashley Reynolds, who’s not just any setter. She helped lead Venice High to a Florida Class 7A state title and snagged Player of the Year honors along the way. Talk about a resume.
Reynolds has been a force since 2023, checking into matches and logging career-highs, like those two aces against Syracuse in 2024. She’s got the skills, and she’s got the grades, consistently making FSU’s Dean’s List. Coach Torbett Thomas is thrilled: "She’s ready to take that next step as a leader on the court."
The Mocs' Next Chapter
With these two joining the ranks, Chattanooga isn’t just looking to compete. They’re looking to take over. Both N'diaye and Reynolds bring serious pedigree and potential. You could feel it coming. This is where the Mocs flip the script in NCAA volleyball.
And from here… it’s game on.
