Carthage just flipped the script in Division III men's volleyball.
CARTHAGE DOMINATES
Carthage Firebirds have soared to the top, claiming the No. 1 spot in the AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball Rankings. An undefeated week solidified their rise, marking them as a true powerhouse. Last season's 23–4 record and an NCAA Regional Quarterfinal appearance? Just the beginning. This team knows how to handle business.
With a balanced attack that's straight up dominant, Carthage ranks among the national leaders in hitting percentage and assists per set. They've got weapons all over the court, and opponents have no answer for that. Conference play is heating up, and they'll need to keep this momentum to fend off contenders.
SPRINGFIELD STILL STRONG
While Carthage takes center stage, Springfield isn't backing down. Ranked No. 3, they dispatched Sage in straight sets. The Pride is a mainstay at the top, and they’re not about to let that change. With a history of holding the No. 1 spot more than any other program, Springfield’s depth is no joke.
This sweep added another notch to their belt, making it clear they’re pushing for the top. And just like that, the race intensifies.
JUNIATA HOLDING STEADY
Juniata Eagles sit comfortably at No. 4, proving once again they’re no strangers to the upper echelons of the sport. The Eagles, with strong defense and efficient offense, continue to be a force. Their legacy in the AVCA rankings is unmatched, reaching the summit over 100 times.
CAL LUTHERAN ON THE RISE
Cal Lutheran rounds out the top five, climbing the ranks with key victories. The Kingsmen are making waves on the West Coast. Their ability to rally in tight matches keeps them in the conversation. Watch out as they aim to leapfrog the competition.
NYU MAKES A STATEMENT
NYU Violets secured a straight-set victory over Emmanuel College, showing their offensive and defensive discipline. Momentum is building, and they’re a team to watch as conference battles intensify.
With each game, the stakes rise. Carthage is at the top now, but Springfield, Juniata, and Cal Lutheran are right there, ready to challenge. This season? It's just getting started. That'll do it.
