Five match points? No problem. The U.S. Women’s National Team just gave us a heart-stopper against Canada in the VNL.
THE COMEBACK STORY
Down 13-9 in the final set, things looked bleak. But the U.S. wasn’t done. Avery Skinner? A revelation. She racked up 21 points, with six kills in the last set alone. That’s big time.
And then everything changed. Tied at 24 in the first set, the U.S. clawed back, taking it 26-24 with back-to-back points. Avery’s kill set up the set point, and a Canadian error sealed it.
THE SKINNER SHOW
Avery wasn’t alone. Madi Skinner added 16 kills, and Logan Eggleston chipped in with 17. They kept the pressure on. Even when Canada snatched the second set, the Skinners and Eggleston kept swinging.
“We just tried to remind ourselves to take it one point, one play at a time,” said Jordyn Poulter, who dished out 63 assists and ran a smooth offense.
BLOCK PARTY
Tia Jimerson was a force at the net. Her six blocks matched the match high, and her fourth-set heroics kept the U.S. alive. When she took over, you could feel it coming.
Head Coach Erik Sullivan praised the fight: “I really like the way we competed in those two sets at the end.” You could see the team growing right before our eyes.
WHAT'S NEXT?
With the win, the U.S. is now 7-4 and heading into a clash with China. They’re in seventh place, but don't sleep on them. This team is learning, adapting, and ready to handle business.
And from here? The finals are calling.
That'll do it.
