The U.S. Women’s National Team kicked off Week 3 of the 2025 VNL with a bang, taking down Thailand 3-1 (28-26, 21-25, 27-25, 25-15). This match? Chaos. The good kind.
SKINNER'S STATEMENT
Avery Skinner? Unstoppable. Making her 2025 VNL debut, she dropped 19 kills, tallying 22 points and leading the match with 10 digs. This wasn't just a game for Skinner, it was a statement. "Thailand is an amazing team," she said, acknowledging the long rallies they faced. But Skinner and the U.S. stayed patient and pounced on their chances.
MOMENTUM SHIFTS
The U.S. (5-4) showed resilience, flipping the match with a 5-1 block margin in the fourth set after being out-blocked early. It was Jordyn Poulter's orchestration at setter, making her 2025 VNL debut as well, that kept the U.S. offense ticking. Coach Erik Sullivan praised the team’s grit: "I liked the way we competed. We were resilient, stuck with the game plan."
TEAM EFFORT
Logan Eggleston matched Skinner's intensity, racking up 19 points with 18 kills and a block. Middle blocker Dana Rettke added 10 points, and the debut duo of Stephanie Samedy and Danielle Cuttino showed their mettle. Cuttino was a wall with four blocks and eight points.
Lexi Rodriguez was the defensive rock, her stellar digs pivotal in keeping the U.S. in play. At the end of the day, it was the team’s ability to adapt that sealed the deal.
WHAT'S NEXT
The U.S. faces the Dominican Republic next. This team has tasted victory and wants more. You could feel it coming.
The U.S. is making noise in the VNL. Stay tuned. That'll do it.
