Texas Shows TCU No Mercy
Texas Volleyball isn't just winning; they're making it look easy. Their latest victim? The No. 9 ranked TCU Horned Frogs, who were swept aside in straight sets (25-12, 25-17, 25-18) by a Texas team that looks more like a volleyball juggernaut than a college squad.
This was Texas' fourth consecutive win over a top 10 opponent, and it came with the kind of dominance that leaves you wondering if anyone can stop them this season. They're now sitting pretty at 7-0, having defeated six ranked teams in seven matches. That's not a record; it's a statement.
Torrey Stafford: The Double-Double Queen
Leading the charge was junior sensation Torrey Stafford, who notched her fifth double-double of the season. Fifteen kills, thirteen digs, and a blistering .542 hitting percentage made her the undisputed star of the match. Oh, and let's not forget her three service aces, contributing half of the team's total. Stafford was everywhere, and TCU couldn't find an answer.
Texas as a team finished with a .415 hitting percentage, while TCU struggled, managing just a .163. The Horned Frogs haven't been swept since November, and they haven't won a set in Gregory Gym since 2018. Texas made sure that streak continued.
The Stats Don't Lie
Set one saw Texas open with an impressive 6-0 run that set the tone for the night. Defensive specialist Ramsey Gary was a serving machine, while Cari Spears led with five of the team's 16 digs. The Longhorns held TCU to a zero hitting percentage in this set, something that would make any defense coach proud.
Set two was tighter, with the teams tied ten times and the lead changing hands three times. But Texas showed why they're a top team, ending on an 11-3 run. Spears added five more kills to her tally, rounding out at .526 for the night.
In the third set, it was freshman Abby Vander Wal's turn to shine, racking up six kills as Texas cruised to victory. Stafford was unstoppable, adding eight more kills and six digs.
Eyes on the Next Prize
So, what's next for this powerhouse? Texas is set to host No. 21 Baylor for their fifth-straight top 25 matchup. If Baylor thinks they can walk into Gregory Gym and pull an upset, they've got another thing coming.
In a season where other top teams like Pepperdine and BYU are making headlines for their own dominance, Texas is not just keeping pace; they're setting it. With performances like this, a championship run isn't just a possibility, it's an expectation.
