History was made. New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's volleyball team just went undefeated in conference play for the first time ever. And they did it in style, sweeping Medgar Evers College 3-0 (25-7, 25-5, 25-9).
Setting the Pace
NJCU (18-7, 8-0) was on fire, hitting a scorching .447 as a team. Mikey Harte led the way with a career-high 13 kills. Meanwhile, Faraz Bhatti put on a show, dishing out 40 assists and racking up 9 service aces. That's big time. The Gothic Knights surged to an 8-0 start in the first set, and Medgar Evers just had no answer.
No Mercy
The second set? Dominance. NJCU opened with back-to-back 10-0 runs. That's not normal. Meanwhile, Mike McGehee added three kills to his name, crossing the century mark for the first time. He ignited a 5-0 run that pushed NJCU's lead to 18-3.
Jonathan Mundaray held it down defensively with 11 digs. Medgar Evers struggled, hitting -.088 as a team. The Cougars managed a 4-1 run late in the second set, but NJCU's lead was untouchable.
Sealing the Deal
The third set started tight, tied at three, but NJCU flipped the script with a 7-1 run. They never looked back. Head Coach Carlo Edra knows the job isn't done. "Regular season champions sound nice, but none of that will matter unless we finish the job and win the conference tournament."
Up next? NJCU faces tougher competition against #9 Southern Virginia and #16 Rutgers-Newark. If this team keeps rolling, watch out.
This team means business.
