Nebraska's Reign Continues
The Big Ten's 2025 volleyball preseason poll dropped, and Nebraska sits comfortably at the top. No surprise there, given their back-to-back conference titles in 2023 and 2024. They're the team to beat, and the target on their back just got bigger.
Illinois' Uphill Battle
Illinois comes in at No. 9, trying to shake off last year's 10-10 league play and an 18-13 overall record. The Illini are in rebuilding mode, especially with the departure of their star, Raina Terry. Terry was a powerhouse — a three-time All-Big Ten First Team and an All-American. Filling those shoes? No small task.
New Faces, New Hopes
But don't count out head coach Chris Tamas just yet. He's not one to sit still. Over the offseason, Illinois snagged transfers from Texas and Florida State, hoping to inject some fresh talent into the lineup. These new additions could be the spark they need to climb the ranks.
The Preseason Snub
Interestingly, no Illini players made the preseason all-conference team. That's a statement. Or maybe a challenge? Either way, Illinois has something to prove. And you can bet they're circling their calendar for a shot at Nebraska.
And just like that, the Big Ten race is on. Nebraska's dominance is clear, but will Illinois surprise us all? Stay tuned, because this season is going to be a rollercoaster.
