Florida managed what five others couldn't: take a set from No. 7 Wisconsin. But in the end, the Badgers walked away with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 36-34 victory. The good kind.
Colyer's Comeback Story
Mimi Colyer had a rough start. First set, only one kill, three errors, hitting a minus-.200. Not the kind of numbers you expect from the Big Ten leader in kills per set. But you could feel it coming. Colyer turned it around, racking up a season-high 27 kills, hitting .339 by the match's end. That's third in the Wisconsin record books for kills in a four-set match during the 25-point rally scoring era.
Coach Kelly Sheffield summed it up: “I’m not sure that Set 1 could have gone too much worse for her. And then being able to dig out of that... that's what leaders do.” Colyer agreed, saying, “Our passing got a lot better... I think Charlie (Fuerbringer) did a really good job at spreading the offense.”
Fourth Set Marathon
The fourth set? A war. 19 ties, 9 lead changes, and 36-34 on the scoreboard. Neither team gave an inch, but Wisconsin had the edge. The Badgers fended off seven set points from the No. 15 Gators, showing grit and skill.
