Indy Ignite Turns Up the Heat
Indy Ignite just turned the Major League Volleyball scene on its head, clinching the top seed in the championship race with a nail-biting four-set victory over the Atlanta Vibe. And if that wasn't enough to get your heart racing, they tied the all-time MLV record for most wins in a single season, clocking in at a jaw-dropping 21 victories. That's not just winning, folks, that's rewriting the history books.
A Rollercoaster Start
The match kicked off in Duluth, Ga., with the Ignite looking anything but lit. They stumbled out of the gate, but middle blocker Lydia Martyn and opposite hitter Camryn Hannah had other plans. They fired up a seven-point rally that set the tone, claiming the first set 25-18. But hold your applause, Atlanta wasn't about to roll over.
Atlanta Strikes Back
The second set saw the Vibe living up to their reputation as a high-powered offensive machine. They took complete control, never relinquishing the lead, and stormed to a 25-19 victory. The match now tied, Indy had to dig deep.
Tug-of-War in the Third
The third set was a heart-stopper, a back-and-forth tug-of-war that had fans on the edge of their seats. Tied at 22, the Ignite found their spark again, rallying for three unanswered points to seize the set. "We were down in that third set, and we were able to turn it around," acknowledged head coach Lauren Bertolacci.
