Hawai'i Ends BYU's Win Streak in Style

The BYU Cougars came to Honolulu with a nine-match win streak. They left with a reality check.

Hawai'i Handles Business

The Hawai'i Warriors took down the No. 6 Cougars 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18) in a high-octane showdown. Both teams entered with identical nine-match streaks, but only the Warriors left with theirs intact. Trent Moser was a bright spot for BYU, notching a season-high 18 kills, but it wasn't enough to flip the script.

Early Leads Set the Tone

Hawai'i jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set, setting the tone early. BYU fought back with a 5-1 run to go 15-11, but the Warriors clawed their way back, taking the set 27-25. That set win? It snapped BYU's 27-set winning streak. You could feel it coming.

Moser's Moment

The second set belonged to Moser. Eight kills on 11 swings with no errors. When it mattered most, he delivered to even the match at 1-1. BYU was hitting .643 to UH’s .167 midway through the first set. But then everything changed.

Warriors Take Control

Hawai'i took the third set 25-17 without ever trailing. Despite Tyler Herget dishing out 47 assists, the Cougars couldn’t regain momentum. A 6-0 run in the fourth set sealed the deal for the Warriors, with the final set ending at 25-18. BYU will have to regroup for the rematch.

Connor Oldani and Trevor Herget both reached double digits in kills with 12 each, but the Warriors had no answer for the combined effort.

What Comes Next?

So what's next? These two powerhouses clash again on Friday. Same teams, same stage. Different result? We'll see.
